Each website’s/blog’s/whatever’s must-be is About page. Personally, I like to visit About pages, even those which I see for first and last time in my life. Just to get know what the website is, and who is the author. So, let’s get down to business.
Idea
Ok, so you just happened to visit something like Yet Another Blog About Whatever Blahblah. Boring, isn’t it? Well, might be. But, in fact, a real reason why I created this blog was quite selfish - I wanted to create a website where I could post some useful tips’n'tricks and solutions of problems regarding everyday-linux-use - just to keep them in reference for future use. How many times you had that feeling like Oh man! I knew how to solve XYZ problem, but I just forgot it, so you had to gooooogle for that again. So, basically, the idea is to write down all my quick and dirty linux-tips down here, and then hop back here for ready-made solution in case I’d need that later. And by the way - putting them into wide-open weblog might be useful for someone else as well. So maybe I’m not that much selfish. ;)
Btw, Linux may not be the only topic of interest in this blog, so you never know what to expect, actually (even I don’t ;).
Me an Linux
My adventure with Linux environment started around winter 2004, when this gentleman was very stubborn to make me a linux-user. I was quite happy with Windows back then, but one day he succeeded and I invited Fedora Core 3 into my laptop’s hard drive. Since that time, I only use Fedora Core as main OS (however, still having few gigs of ntfs partition with winxp - I need it sometimes), regularly updating it with newest releases every 6-months or so. I certainly do NOT regard myself as experienced linux-user, especially in deep system/kernel/server/command-line configuration and/or usage. I would describe myself rather as regular desktop user with just a bit of experience. Anyway, experience is *very* relative term, so let’s just leave it.
Since mentioned Fedora Core 3, I was able to observe Fedora’s (and linux-platform overall) evolution during past couple of years. Each release is just better and much more mature than previous, and I personally think Linux in general is getting quickly to the point, when I could recommend it to literally everyone, regardless of so-far experience with desktops or computing at all.
evad.zone
Background story of evad.zone is quite long. Multitude of my committed and trusty fans would probably remember very first editions of evad.zone around 1999/2000, at the time when I was young and foolish (now I’m just foolish ;). There were my first steps into internet blogging, and - of course - I tended to write posts sort of like why does my heart feel so bad and similar ‘romantic’ stuff. I guess everyone have already passed that period in their blogging-life. Anyway, since I figured out I’m lousy blogger in covering various sorts of everyday-commons and pains in my heart (on the other hand, I’m happily married, my heart is now stable, so there is nothing ‘interesting’ to write about ;), I decided to give a try with personal website covering a specific and more ambitious topic, however I don’t exclude possibility to write about my heart issues whenever I want to. ;) So here we go: evad.zone. reloaded. Enjoy.
English?
Originally, I am from Poland. As many know, since Poland joined EU in May 2004, about 35 million out of ~40 million citizens of Poland left country and went to UK for a job, money, and basically - a better life. I was one of them. I live and work in London, together with my beloved wife. The reason why I write my blog in english is not that I want to cut away from Poland and become 100% British (haha), as some of you might think. There are two actual reasons for that: 1) improve language skills, which are not as good as I wanted them to be; 2) writing some linux-related posts might get into much wider audience, which will tickle my selfishness a bit. ;)
